So you’re moving to Austin for a lifestyle change—time to restart with a move to new practices and good habits along with your geographic relocation? Many people move to Austin first and then find a job. Other relocate with one of the many corporate moves. Our community embraces inclusive attitudes, practices, and lifestyles that are healthy and fit, sustainable and renewable, outdoors and active, positive and supportive, values-based and neighbors-helping-neighbors, music-loving, innovative, responsible, happy and cool. Our ATX residents work on self improvement and self actualization and have a learning mindset.
The city I loved as an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin is still around if you squint hard enough. Some longtime Austinites (they are a bit hard to find!) are not happy with the crazy-fast growth; the “re-gentrification” has caused a lot of disruption to long time communities and families. Yet, through the growing pains and clearly lagging civic infrastructure, there are silhouettes shaping up of the city & I have fallen in love it with all over again since I moved back here seven years ago.
So, your move to Austin is a great time for an attitude reset and an opportunity to change up your routine practices. We think about this duality as Austin Inside. Austin Outside. My partner, Kirsten Spacek, and I both blog about our perspectives on living a great life in Austin. Kirsten is a planner and also has an undergraduate degree from UT-Austin—hers from McCombs School of Business in Finance and Global Management. Her passion is financial literacy—making sure that your new life in Austin is as financially fit as your health and wellness lifestyle. She blogs Austin Inside—bringing the Austin Vibe for health and financial well-being to YOU. How you can incorporate new healthy financial habits into your day to day life in Austin. Kirsten will cover aspects about our economic environment and some household budget shifts you might want to consider—for example, we are no income tax state but our housing prices are rising rapidly and property taxes are fairly high. Follow her blog to keep up with Austin Inside here
Another key component to success and happiness in Austin is Austin Outside. If your attitude and behavior change is related to embracing our green and non-profit community—how we are neighbors-helping-neighbors, follow our Austin Outside blog here.
We are so happy you decided to come to our vibrant city! We hope you fall as quickly and madly in love with Austin as we have. Join us on your new Austin Inside. Austin Outside. Journey.
